2013 Season Recap
The University of Georgia equestrian team continued to rank among the nation’s best during the 2012-13 season, finishing with its third-straight NCEA Reserve Title. After a runner-up performance on the Hunt Seat side, the Bulldogs were tied with Auburn for the team title, but ultimately fell 3-1 in a rideoff.
The 2012-13 season marked a historic one in equestrian, as the Southeastern Conference sponsored the sport for the first time. Georgia went 3-3 in SEC play and finished third at the inaugural SEC Championship in Auburn, Ala.
The Bulldogs started off the season tied for first in the nation with Texas A&M, but dispatched the Aggies 17-5 in the first-ever SEC equestrian meet. Georgia then picked up a win at No. 5 Baylor. After a trio of close losses, the Bulldogs closed out the regular-season with a 12-4 win over New Mexico State.
Georgia opened the spring portion of its schedule with wins at Fresno State and South Carolina to improve to 5-3 on the year. After a loss to Auburn, Georgia won three-straight to close out the regular-season. Georgia got its third win over Texas A&M at the SEC Championship before entering the NCEA Championship at the No. 3 seed in both the Hunt Seat and Western disciplines.
Both the Hunt Seat and Western Teams advanced to the semifinals with second-round wins. The Western Team fell to Kansas State 5-2, while the Hunt Seat advanced to the finals against Auburn. Auburn edged the Bulldogs 4-3 on the Hunt Seat side, but the teams were tied for the team title, resulting in a ride-off. Georgia scored well in the ride-off, but Auburn came away with a 3-1 win, allowing the Bulldogs to take home their third-consecutive NCEA Reserve Title.
