H.J. Stegeman takes over as head coach. In his first season, he compiled a 8-0-1 record which included a Southern Intercollegiate championship. It was Georgia's first undefeated season since 1896. Georgia is unofficially dubbed the "Bulldogs" by Atlanta sportswriter Cliff Wheatley.

Georgia linemen Owen Reynolds, Bum Day, and Artie Pew are named to the All-Southern team along with guard Hugh Whelchel. The team completed the season with a 7-2-1 record.

Hugh "Puss" Whelchel, an outstanding offensive guard, is named captain of the 1922 team. He blocked 19 kicks in his football career at Georgia.

George "Kid" Woodruff, former captain and star quarterback of the 1911 squad, assumes head coaching responsibilities for a token salary of $1 per year. He introduced the Notre Dame formation to the South with the help of two Knute Rockne disciples, line coach Harry Mehre and backfield coach Frank Thomas.

Coach Woodruff leads Georgia to its eighth consecutive winning season, finishing the year with a 7-3-0 record.

Ralph Thompson serves as captain of the team which defeated Auburn, 34-0, in Columbus.

Georgia posts a 14-13 come-from-behind victory over Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs were down 13-0 at the half, then Herdis McCrary scored in the third quarter to make it 13-7. Captain George Morton threw the winning touchdown pass to Jack Curran for Georgia in the fourth quarter.

Coach Woodruff, in his last season at Georgia, leads the Bulldogs to a 9-1-0 record. The team produced two All-Americans, I.M. "Chick" Shiver and Tom Nash. Nash later went on to become Georgia's first professional football player.

Former assistant coach Harry Mehre is named head coach following George Woodruff's retirement. He compiled a 4-5-0 record in his first season. Georgia breaks ground for the construction of Sanford Stadium.

Georgia plays its inaugural game at Sanford Stadium on Oct. 12 against Yale, the mighty team from the East. Georgia shuts out the Yale Bulldogs in a shocking 15-0 upset in front of a sell-out crowd.
