Hamano Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week

September 14, 2026 | Soccer

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia senior midfielder Honoka Hamano was named Southeastern Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office in Birmingham.

Hamano, who shared the honor with South Carolina midfielder Reese Slater, received the Bulldogs' first SEC weekly honor of the season following her performance against No. 2 Vanderbilt last Thursday. In the 15th minute, the Tokyo native netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season with a blistering strike from beyond the 18-yard box, set up by assists from teammates Mya Townes and Kiera Staude.

Buoyed by Hamano's goal, Georgia (3-2-3, 0-0-1 SEC) went on to draw Vanderbilt, 1-1, giving the program its second-ever result against a top two opponent in program history.

Hamano and the rest of the Bulldogs remain home this Friday, Sept. 18 as they play host to Oklahoma (7-0-2, 1-0-0 SEC) at 6:30 p.m. at the Turner Soccer Complex. Admission is free for all spectators, and the match will stream live on SEC Network+ and ESPN Unlimited. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Georgia soccer replica jersey at halftime.
