Georgia Completes First Day at Kitty Harrison Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Georgia opened the fall season with a strong showing at the Kitty Harrison Invitational, picking up four singles victories on Friday at the Chewning Tennis Center.

Fast Facts:

No. 5 Aysegul Mert led the way for the Bulldogs, cruising past Shona Nakano of Charlotte, 6-0, 6-4. No. 27 Deniz Dilek also earned a straight-set victory, defeating Claire An of Duke, 6-2, 6-1.
No. 80 Linea Bajraliu battled back after dropping the first set to No. 85 Alexis Nguyen of North Carolina, earning a (5)6-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Ava Rodriguez also rallied for a three-set win, defeating Sierra Vagi of James Madison, (5)6-7, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles, No. 19 Mert and Dilek fell to No. 41 Reese Miller and Piper Charney of Michigan, 6-3. Bajraliu and Rodriguez also dropped their match to Vivian Yang and Martina Genis Salas of Virginia, 6-1.

Georgia will continue competition in the Carolinas for day two at the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12 beginning at 10 a.m.
