Bulldogs Have Three Scorers, Four Qualifiers On Day One At SEC T&F Championships

AUBURN, Ala. --- A pair of Bulldogs finished in the top four of the men's javelin to highlight the opening day of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships in Auburn, Ala., Thursday.
 
The Bulldogs had three scorers in the first SEC meet back at the Hutsell-Rosen Track since 2008:
*Senior Jordan Davis (javelin – 2nd), sophomore Nick Reynolds (javelin – 4th), senior Oliver Smarr (10,000 meters – 8th)
 
Georgia also finished the day with four qualifiers:
*Redshirt freshman Adaejah Hodge and senior Kaila Jackson punched their tickets to the 200m final.  Hodge won the overall group with a 22.54 and Jackson was fifth with a 22.75.  The duo races in the 200m final at 8:25 p.m. ET Saturday. 
*Sophomore Michelle Smith secured a win in the third heat of the 400m hurdles and was third overall.  She will race in the final at 8:05 p.m. Saturday.
*Sophomore Mohamed Adoini clocked the third-fastest 400m hurdle time of his career with a 49.21 to win the prelims.  The first-year transfer will race in the final at 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
 
Senior Ella Rush chose to compete in the conference heptathlon after coming into the week situated eighth on the national list.  Following the first four events on Thursday, Rush trails the leader by 154 points and is in fourth with 3,391 points.
 
Following Thursday's action through three of 21 events, Alabama is leading on the women's side with 21 points.  Ole Miss (21) is at the top of the leaderboard on the men's side while the Bulldogs (14) are in fourth.
 
The Lowdown: *Davis lifted his third attempt in the javelin 79.59 meters/261 feet, 1 inch to finish second at his first SEC meet.  
*Reynolds, who like Davis is also a transfer who arrived this season, opened with his longest throw of 76.72m/251-8 to add another five points with a fourth-place finish.
*Yet another first-year Bulldog competitor, Smart edged teammate Will Aitken for the eighth and final scoring spot after he completed his 25 laps of the 10,000 in 29:55.10.
*While Xai Ricks missed the 800m final by three spots, he took over the No. 8 spot on UGA's all-time top 10 list with a 1:48.07 for 12th. 
 
Hep Update: *Rush began her four events on the day with a personal best 13.77 in the 100m hurdles for fourth in a race that was pushed by a 2.4 meter/second wind.
*Rush went over the high jump bar on her second try at 1.62m/5-3.75 and put her in 10th in the event.
*In the shot put, she sandwiched a personal record of 12.58m/41-3.25 in her three-throw series.
*She was the third finisher in the 200m after crossing the line in 24.63 to close her day.
 
Friday's Schedule: Rush starts day two action in the heptathlon long jump at 12:45 p.m.  She will finish up in the javelin and 800m on Friday.  In the open events, senior Kelsie Murrell-Ross and junior Nina Ndubuisi begin in the women's shot put at 4:30 p.m. while Maddi Cooper, Taylor Cox, Rylee Hampton, Chelsi Williams and Zoe Ziglor take the track in the 100m hurdle prelims at 6:15 p.m.
