No. 5 Georgia Splits a Doubleheader With #17 Ole Miss

April 26, 2026 | Baseball

OXFORD, MISS. – Fifth-ranked Georgia split a doubleheader versus No. 17 Ole Miss Saturday as the Rebels stormed back to win the first game 10-8, and the Bulldogs responded to take game two 9-7 in 14 innings.

Fast Facts From The Doubleheader
  • In game one, Georgia built an early 8-0 lead, getting a two-out, two run single by Rylan Lujo in the first and then batted around in the fourth, scoring six times on five hits. Henry Allen and Kolby Branch had two-run singles to highlight the outburst that chased Rebel starter Hunter Elliott.
  • In game one during a six-run inning, Georgia registered its first sacrifice bunt of the season. The first sacrifice attempt in the inning ended up being a single by Ryan Wynn. Two batters later, Kenny Ishikawa notched an RBI on a sacrifice bunt.
  • Junior Joey Volchko started game one and went 5.2 innings with a season-high 10 strikeouts but got a no decision. The Rebels got a grand slam from Austin Fawley in the fourth following three walks in the frame.
  • In game one, graduate Caden Aoki came on for Volchko with one on and two outs in the sixth with the Bulldogs leading 8-4. He went 1.2 .innings and allowed three solo home runs and left with one on and one out in the eighth as Georgia looked to Justin Byrd (2-2) leading 8-7 but the Rebels responded with their fifth home run of the day to win it 10-8.
  • Game one featured numerous diving plays by the Rebel outfielders including one by Hayden Federico that ended the game, robbing Branch of a potential two-run, game-tying double.

  • In game two, the Rebels took a 2-0 lead on Austin Fawley's sixth home run of the year. Georgia made it 2-1 in the third on a two-out, RBI-single by Daniel Jackson. Georgia loaded the bases in the inning and then Topher Jones made a diving catch of Lujo's line drive to end the threat.
  • Branch delivered a two-out, run-scoring double in the fourth to make it 2-all, and Ole Miss answered with a solo home run by Will Furniss to jump back ahead in the bottom of the inning.
  • Georgia scored its first seven runs with two outs including a five-run fifth that featured a two-run home run by Lujo and a three-run blast by Brennan Hudson on his birthday.
  • Daniel Jackson (2-for-6, RBI) registered three stolen bases to give him 21 for the year and become Georgia's first player to ever have 20 home runs and at least 20 stolen bases in a season.
  • Junior right-hander Zach Brown gave the Bulldogs three innings in a start. Caleb Jameson provided a season-high 2.2 innings and then Georgia turned to Matt Scott with a 7-5 lead and two outs in the sixth.
  • Ole Miss tied the game in the ninth with a one-out, two-run home run by Furniss that made it 7-all.

Key Quotes
Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson
On Saturday's doubleheader…
"We showed a little bit of toughness today. Toughness is the ability to have great endurance, and we did. We took a gut punch in that first game but just have to keep going. Then in the second game, we had to keep grinding and I told the team it will turn in our favor, and it did. Tre (Phelps) got off a great swing there to give us the lead in the 14th. Paul Farley came in and shut it down. We can spend all night here talking how great some of the guys battled. Zach Brown got us off to a good start, Caleb Jameson gave us 2.2 innings, Matt Scott a little more than three innings, Grant Edwards goes two scoreless, and we brought back (Justin) Byrd who got us to Paul. "
