Georgia Track & Field Representatives Collect Four Medals at the 2026 Indoor World Athletics Championships

March 23, 2026 | Track & Field

TORUŃ, Poland – Former Georgia Bulldog Christopher Morales-Williams captured his first career world title, while three additional Georgia representatives secured medals at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships held at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena this weekend.

A two-time NCAA 400-meter champion, Morales-Williams delivered a standout performance in the men's 400 meters, clocking a season-best 44.76. That time not only earned him gold, but also set a new World Indoor Championships record. The Indoor Collegiate record-holder surged ahead in the final stretch, pulling away from USA's Khaleb McRae to secure the victory and claim the title for Canada.

In the men's heptathlon, collegiate record-holder Kyle Garland added another world medal to his collection, earning bronze with 6,245 points for the United States. This marks Garland's second World Championships medal, following his bronze-medal performance this past fall at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Japan.

Meanwhile in the relays, Georgia had a representative on each of the United State's 4x400 meter relay squads.

On the men's side, Elija Godwin, the 2023 Indoor National Champion in the 400 meters, ran the opening leg of the men's 4x400 race helping the United States to a gold-medal finish at 3:01.52.

Former volunteer assistant sprints coach Bailey Lear matched that success on the women's side, also running the first leg to help the United States secure gold with a time of 3:25.81.
