ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia sophomore swimmer Kennedi Dobson and senior diver Matthew Bray were named Southeastern Conference performers of the week Tuesday afternoon, as announced by the league office in Birmingham.
Dobson was named SEC Women's Swimmer of the Week after turning in a historical performance Friday in No. 12 Georgia's College Swimming League match in Athens against Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee. In the 500-yard freestyle, Dobson touched first with a personal-best time of 4:30.48, setting new SEC, CSL, UGA, and pool records in the event. With the time, the Levittown, Pennsylvania native became the ninth-fastest performer in history in the event, improving upon the 4:30.50 she dropped at last season's SEC Championships.
Dobson later posted another personal-best time of 1:42.06 in the 200y freestyle, setting a new top time nationally and the fourth-fastest time in program history. She also placed third in the 200y IM with an NCAA cut of 1:57.08, the eighth-fastest time in the country this season. After previously earning the honor on Oct. 13, she shared Swimmer of the Week honors this week with Tennessee's Camille Spink.
Bray was named SEC Men's Diver of the Week for the second time in his career after sweeping both springboard events in a dual meet against Alabama Friday. The Fairfax, Virginia native finished first on 1-meter with a season-best score of 366.15, scoring four times in the sixties. He later placed first on 3-meter with a season-best 384.08, including a 73.95 on his third dive. Bray has now placed first in three of his four events this season.
Dobson, Bray, and the Georgia swimming and diving teams remain home this Friday to face No. 3/10 Florida at 11 a.m. at Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Admission is free for all fans, and the meet will stream live on SEC Network+.
