August 25, 2025 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. – Following a historic week for the University of Georgia soccer program, redshirt junior midfielder Summer Denigan and freshman forward Lily Kate Elphick received Southeastern Conference weekly honors, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Denigan was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Elphick was tabbed as SEC Freshman of the Week. Denigan was previously awarded the honor in October 2023 following her performance at Tennessee. It is the first career honor for Elphick.
Denigan powered the Georgia (3-1-0) attack in shutout wins over No. 12 North Carolina and Michigan. On Thursday, the Union, Kentucky native scored the winning goal in the 51st minute, crashing the net and finishing off a deflected shot. She followed it up in the 72nd minute with an assist to Elphick, setting up the goal to clinch the Bulldogs' first-ever victory over the Tar Heels.
On Sunday, Denigan scored the winning goal for the third-consecutive match, blasting a strike from 25 yards out to put the Bulldogs on the board. Later, in the 49th minute, she headed in a pass from teammate BK Harris to make the margin, 2-0. For the week, she tallied seven points, three goals (two game-winners), and an assist.
Elphick continued the strong start to her Georgia career as she helped clinch Georgia's win over North Carolina with a blistering left-footed goal from inside the 18, extending the lead to 2-0 and sealing the historic victory. In her first four appearances as a Bulldog, the Roswell native has only two shots with both resulting in goals from long distance.
Denigan, Elphick, and the rest of the Georgia soccer team will close their five-match season-opening homestand this Thursday against North Florida at 6:30 p.m. at the Turner Soccer Complex. Admission is free for all fans, and the match will stream live on SEC Network+.
