OOLTEWAH, Tenn. — The Georgia women's golf team fired an 11-over 299 in Friday's opening round of the Chattanooga Classic, placing the Bulldogs in third place on the 15-team leaderboard at The Honors Course.

• Graduate Chantal El Chaib carded a 3-under 69 to lead Georgia. She played the front side of the course at 4-under, with birdies at No. 1, No. 5, No. 7 and No. 8. El Chaib was 1-over after the turn, mixing a trio of birdies at No. 11, No. 15 and No. 16 with bogeys at No. 10, No. 13, No. 17 and No. 18.
• El Chaib is second on the individual leaderboard, a shot off the pace of Duke's Anna Cañado Espinal.
• Georgia is five strokes behind No. 10 North Carolina in the team field, with Wisconsin in second at 295. The Bulldogs are ahead of a pair of top-25 teams – No. 22 Duke (300) and No. 13 Virginia (304).
• Georgia also counted a 75 from senior Kate Song, a 76 by sophomore Celine Brovold Sanne and a 79 from sophomore Morgan Smith.
• On the individual leaderboard, Song is tied for 18th, Brovold Sanne is tied for 24th and Smith is tied for 57. In addition, Zixin "Candice" Lou is in 87th (86) and sophomore Grace Frei, who is competing individually, is tied for 77th (82).

"Today the team showed a lot of grit and even more growth," head coach Erika Brennan said. "All credit to them for hanging in the fight on a very challenging course. Tomorrow, we need to stay process oriented and pack our patience. These girls are special and we're ready to get after it again!"

The Bulldogs will continue play at the Chattanooga Classic on Saturday. Due to the weather forecast for Sunday, the tournament's second and third rounds will be contested on Saturday beginning with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
