Bulldogs Collect Three Gold Medals On Final Day Of SEC Indoor Championships

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas --- Aaliyah Butler took home the SEC 400-meter dash title in record-breaking fashion on Saturday, skyrocketing into the world lead with the second-fastest time in NCAA history to lead the Bulldogs on the final day of the SEC Indoor Championships.
 
In total, Georgia earned three event wins and seven podium finishes on Saturday as the Bulldog women finished fourth with 57 points and the men collected 34.5 points to place ninth. The women's fourth-place showing was their best since the 2021 season when Georgia finished third with 69 points.

  • Butler flew to a time of 49.78 in the 400-meter dash finals to win the SEC title with the fastest time in the world this year. The time stands as the No. 2 400-meter dash in NCAA history while allowing Butler to set school, meet, and facility records in the event.
  • Kaila Jackson earned Georgia's first SEC title in the 60-meter dash since Debbie Ferguson in 1999, recording a season-best time of 7.12 to take the event crown. Jackson also scored points in the 200m, placing fourth with a time of 22.91.
  • Dejanea Oakley, Michelle Smith, Haley Tate, and Butler clocked a blazing time of 3:26.42 in the women's 4x400-meter relay to capture gold with a school and facility record in the final event of the night. The time marked the second school record set by the quartet this season, the last of which came at the Razorback Invitational on Jan. 25. Additionally, the relay was the 12th-fastest recorded in NCAA history.
  • Elena Kulichenko cleared the high jump bar at 1.95 meters/6 feet, 4.75 inches to break the school and Cypriot national records indoors while claiming the silver medal in College Station. Starting her series of jumps at 1.83m/6-0, the senior cleared each of her first five bars to earn her third-straight SEC indoor podium finish.
  • Will Floyd followed up Friday's impressive performance with another personal best in the 400m, running a 45.24 in Saturday's final for runner-up honors. The sophomore improved his No. 4 time in program history while earning a medal in his first SEC Championship meet.
  • Kelsie Murrell-Ross established school and Grenadian indoor national records with her personal-best mark in the shot put, posting a 17.62m/57-9.75 heave on her second attempt to take bronze in College Station.
  • Other Bulldog scorers on Saturday included Oakley (400m – 4th – 50.90), the men's 4x400m team of Floyd, Shemar Chambers, Xai Ricks, and Ervin Pearson (6th – 3:06.25), Skylynn Townsend (triple jump – 7th – 13.36m/43-10), and Reign Redmond (60m – 8th – 7.29).
