Anya Turner Honored with SEC Co-Specialist of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Anya Turner was selected as the Southeastern Conference Co-Specialist of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Turner had a record-breaking night for the Bulldogs in Columbia, Mo. at the Hearnes Center. The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native captured the highest individual routine score received by any GymDog in any event this season on the beam, securing a 9.975 to earn herself a new career high in the event.

The beam specialist's routine helped Georgia earn a new season high of 49.550 for the team on the beam. This score ties for the fifth highest single meet beam score in Georgia Gymnastics history, making it the highest team score in the event since the 2019 season.

Additionally, Turner's performance helped Georgia secure a season-high of 197.350 overall, the GymDogs' third-straight week breaking 197.000 this season.Â

The Bulldogs are No. 9 in the nation and No. 5 in the SEC in the week eight rankings after their season high at Missouri. This marks the first time since 2020 that the team has broken the top 10.Â

Georgia Gymnastics is set to return home this Sunday to take on Kentucky at 6:00 p.m., ET. in Stegeman, broadcast on SEC Network.
