February 20, 2025 | General, Track & Field, Women's Swimming & Diving
NORTHBROOK, Ill. – University of Georgia women's indoor track and field junior Kaila Jackson and women's swimming and diving senior Abby McCulloh have been selected and nominees for the inaugural class of Allstate National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletic (NACDA) Good Works Winter Team.
The Bulldog duo joins a group of 193 student-athletes excelling in academics, sports and community impact. They are included in a group of 115 women and 78 men – spanning 17 sports, including basketball, swimming and diving, gymnastics, ice hockey and many others.
Nominations can be submitted for up to one female and one male student-athlete from each winter sport at an institution. Eligible schools and athletics programs must represent one of five intercollegiate athletics divisions: NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and Junior/Community Colleges. Nominees must have completed at least one year (two semesters) of college coursework at a two-year or four-year institution. A distinguished Selection Committee will select 20 nominees – 10 female and 10 male student-athletes – to join the 2024-25 Allstate NACDA Good Works Team (Winter).
"These young women and men are more than competitors – they're leaders, changemakers and role models," Holly Rowe, ESPN reporter, play-by-play commentator and Allstate NACDA Ambassador, said. "Their influence extends beyond the game, shaping communities and teaching others the value of leadership skills, like empathy, resilience and integrity, which will last a lifetime."
Jackson, a sprinter from Redford, Mich., has been active in the Athens community throughout her three years at Georgia. She has been a representative for the Track & Field team and the University of Georgia Athletic Association during the Dawg Day of Service and has visited and volunteers twice a week at Barrow Elementary School for a semester. She has volunteered to work the Run Athens event and the Spooky Dawgs event for Halloween. She has served at the Vacation Bible School at the Lomax AME Zion Church and given her time to the Gleaners Food Bank.
Along with being an eight-time First Team All-American and the 2023 SEC Indoor Women's Freshman of Runner of the Year, Jackson is the school record holder in the 60m and was the national runner-up in the 60m at the 2023 and 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Journalism major is a three-time Dean's List honoree and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll ever semester, as well as the SEC Academic Honor roll in back-to-back years.
McCulloh, a freestyler from Lilburn, has volunteered with numerous organizations during her four years in Athens. She works with Athens Church, serving as a guest services volunteer and welcoming attendees to the church. She has worked with children involved in ESP and Special Olympics, helping to organize their annual baseball game and prom. With Swim Across America, she fundraised for childhood cancer research and serves on the organization's college advisory board. Through Hilinski's Hope, she produced and filmed a video to support the foundation's efforts to eliminate the stigma associated with mental illness. In the Athens area, she assisted with trash and invasive plant species removal on MLK Day of Service, delivered Christmas cards to local seniors at Presbyterian Village, and organized books for Books for Keeps.
Along with winning last season's SEC and NCAA championships in the 1,650-yard freestyle, McCulloh, a Journalism major, serves as the female student-athlete representative on the UGA Athletic Association Board of Directors, representing and advocating for UGA female student-athletes. She is a member of the Palladia Women's Society, Omicron Delta Kappa Honors Society, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Caucus. She was inducted into the UGA Athletics Leadership Academy in 2022 and helped form the UGA Athletics Performance and Wellness Support Committee. This past January, she was the recipient of the Keith Jackson Rose Bowl Game Scholarship and participated in a specialized work-study program during the 2025 Ohio State-Oregon Rose Bowl Game.
