Bulldogs Dominate Wolves In 18-Inning Exhibition

ATHENS-----Georgia scored 35 runs on 29 hits while 14 Bulldog pitchers saw action during an 18-inning exhibition against West Georgia Sunday at Foley Field.

Here are a few notable performances by the Bulldogs from the exhibition:

*Junior right-handers Joey Volchko and Dylan Vigue set the tone providing two scoreless innings apiece as the Bulldogs built an 11-0 lead after four innings.

*Senior shortstop Kolby Branch (4-for-5, 5 RBI), senior infielder Michael O'Shaughnessy (3-for-5, 5 RBI), junior catcher/outfielder Daniel Jackson (2-for-6, 3 RBI) and senior first baseman Jordy Oriach (3-for-6, 3 RBI) paced the Bulldog offense through the first nine innings. Branch, Jackson and O'Shaughnessy hit home runs.

*Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Kenny Ishikawa batted leadoff, drew three walks in five plate appearances and then pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts when he took the mound for the 10th and 11th innings.

*Graduate first baseman/pitcher Bryce Calloway (4-for-6, 4 runs scored, 6 RBI) headlined the offense over the final nine innings. 

*Freshman outfielder Cole Johnson went 1-for-2 with three walks and three runs scored while freshman outfielder Ty Peeples finished 1-for-3 with three walks and three runs scored.

*Sophomore utility player Henry Allen (2-for-5, 2 RBI) provided the final run of the day when he blasted a solo home run to start the bottom of the 18th.

*The defensive highlight of the afternoon came in the 12th inning when freshman left fielder Ty Peeples fired a strike to senior shortstop Ryan Black who then made a perfect relay toss to senior catcher Brennan Hudson as he tagged out Tyler Presnell attempting to score.

*In the 14th inning, freshman right-hander Joe Nottingham retired all three batters he faced. 

*Graduate pitchers Teddy Brennan and Grant Edwards tallied a pair of strikeouts as each worked a scoreless inning.

*The pitching staff allowed just five runs on 16 hits with eight walks and 20 strikeouts.

*The hitters drew 22 walks and struck out only five times.

Meanwhile, the Wolves managed five runs on 16 hits on the day including home runs by Fano Cruz and Andon Lewis.

The 2026 baseball season opens Friday, Feb. 13.
