KEY QUOTES
Georgia Co-Head Coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi
Opening Statement
"Second meet of the season, and I'm super pleased with the girls, the attitude and the work. We're almost a point higher than last week, and I think it's good for the confidence. And I just can't wait to keep going, really proud of them."
Â
On the gold jacket…
"Actually, it was during a dinner with Suzanne and some of her friends and Marissa, and we were trying to think about something that we could do that no one else was doing, and it came up with a leather jacket. Then put some spikes and some gold in. So we didn't do such a great job tonight using it, because it's still new, but we're going to practice a little bit better, and next time, you'll see it more."
Â
On her first meet in Stegeman…
"The meet went by fast. It was loud, but it was awesome. It carried us throughout the meet and really helped the whole team. It was really fun night. I can't wait for the next one."
Â
Lily Smith | Sophomore
On her two 9.9 scores tonight...
"Both the routines felt really good, but I'm still such a perfectionist so I can find everything that's wrong with it so I do see where the deductions can come from. But I'm happy with those scores so I'll take them."
Â
On having Simone Biles at the meet...
"It's an honor having her in here and our coaches were like, 'She's just a normal human. Don't put pressure on yourself because she's in the building. You guys know what to do. Stay in your bubble.' So I really focused on that and I did it."
Â
Ja' Free Scott | Junior
On the moonwalk in her beam routine...
"I started doing that last year, so my sophomore year, Soraya Hawthorne passed it down to me. We have a lot of traditions, so, once you graduate you pass it down to someone you want, and so she passed it to me, and I love it so much. So yes, I do it every meet."
Â
On having Simone Biles at today's meet..
"She talked to us a little bit before we went out to warm up. It wasn't much, she's just a person, you know what I mean. It just felt good to have her in there, tell us we got it."
