
Georgia Posts 196.300 in Loss at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. --- The No. 20 Georgia gymnastics team fell on the road to No. 7 Michigan, 197.075-196.300, at the Crisler Center on Friday night.
Freshmen Holly Snyder and Ady Wahl notched season high scores on floor, a 9.900 and 9.925, respectively. Freshman Lily Smith took home the event titles on bars (9.950) and in the all-around (39.500) and matched her season-high score on floor (9.950). Additionally, five GymDogs shared a seven-way tie for the high-score of the night on beam- a 9.850.
"We had a disappointing start but I'm proud of the way this team shifted its mindset," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "It proved they are going to fight and keep going, we just have to do it quicker."
The GymDogs struggled in the first two rotations, posting a 48.650 and a 48.950 on bars and vault, respectively. Freshman Lily Smith was the high scorer of the night on bars with a 9.950 and freshman Ady Wahl led the team on vault with a 9.875, both from the anchor positions.
Leaving the first half of the meet behind them, the GymDogs posted their highest away score on floor with a 49.450. Again, it was Smith who led the rotation with a 9.950 from the anchor spot. Fellow freshmen Wahl and Holly Snyder notched season high scores of 9.925 and 9.900, respectively, for their routines.
Finishing on beam, Georgia matched its highest away score for the event with a 49.250, counting five 9.850s from freshmen Jaydah Battle, Anya Turner, and Smith, and sophomores Naya Howard and Ja Free Scott. The group split a seven-way tie for the event title with two Michigan gymnasts.
Georgia heads to Nashville next weekend to compete at the Collegiate Challenge. The GymDogs will face Maryland, Pittsburgh, Iowa, and Talladega on Saturday, March 16 at 12:30 local time. The GymDogs will start on a bye and then compete in Olympic order.
