
Georgia Scores a 196.350 in Loss to Arkansas

FAYETEVILLE, Ark. --- The Georgia gymnastics team improved to a 196.350 but fell to the Arkansas Razorbacks' score of 197.150 in the GymDogs' first road meet of the season at Barnhill Arena on Friday night.
Sophomore JaFree Scott took home the event title on bars matching a career-high 9.950. Freshman Lily Smith led the team on floor with a 9.925. Freshman Ady Wahl and Scott received a 9.900 for their routines on bars and beam respectively.
"It was a good first road meet for us," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "There are things we need to clean up and adjust, but overall I'm pleased with the way our team fought this week after the injuries we endured last week. They're resilient and I know we have so much further to go."
The GymDogs started strong on bars, collectively scoring a 49.425. Scott led the squad with a 9.995, followed by a 9.900 from Wahl. Freshman Lily Smith and Senior Katie Finnegan each scored a 9875 and senior Amanda Cashman led off with a 9.825.
Continuing onto vault in the second rotation, the GymDogs scored a 48.750 with only five gymnasts in the lineup. Wahl led the group with a 9.850 with her Yurchenko one and a half.
The GymDogs competed on floor next, scoring a 49.000. Smith was Georgia's high scorer in the event with a 9.925. Wahl followed with a 9.850. Cashman and sophomore Sidney Fitzgerald contributed scores of 9.750.
The GymDogs finished strong on beam, putting up a 49.175 in the final rotation. Scott scored a 9.900 in the anchor position after freshmen Jaydah Battle, Anya Turner, and Smith all received a 9.850 for their routines.
Georgia is back in Stegeman Coliseum next week against the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, January 20 at 1:45 p.m.
