Georgia Falls to Alabama, 81-63

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia women's basketball team dropped an 81-63 decision to Alabama Thursday evening before 2,641 spectators in Stegeman Coliseum.
Taniyah Thompson led the Lady Bulldogs in her first start for Georgia (10-6, 1-2 SEC) with a season-high 17 points, marking her third game in double figure points this season. Javyn Nicholson extended her double-double streak to eight games with 10 points and 10 boards.
Georgia grabbed an early four-point lead before Alabama (15-3, 2-1 SEC) used six points to take an 8-6 lead. The Lady Bulldogs regained the lead with seven uncontested points and closed the first quarter, 20-16.
Alabama attacked the paint in the second period, scoring its first eight points down low. Both teams traded points before the Crimson Tide used four triples in consecutive possessions to take a 36-35 lead at the half.
The Lady Bulldogs cut Alabama's lead in the third quarter and stayed within two until the Crimson Tide used seven of their own in the final two minutes of the frame to take a 57-51 lead into the final period.
Multiple scoring runs from Alabama allowed the Crimson Tide to maintain the advantage in the fourth period with a 81-63 win.
Georgia will travel to Gainesville, Florida to face the Gators on Sunday at 2 p.m. on SEC Network+.
