FINAL SCORE SHEET
AUBURN, Ala. –The No. 2 Georgia equestrian team fell to No. 1 Auburn, 13-7, in the season opener at the Auburn University Equestrian Center on Friday afternoon.
"Today was a great road test," said head coach Meghan Boenig. "Talk about starting off with a big bang, I'm really proud of a lot of scores. A lot of places we were so close and it could have gone in another direction. In the little places we've got to close those gaps. I'm proud of our riders for being risky, and that's the way we need to ride towards a national championship and a number one team."
Fences and Horsemanship kicked off the meet on The Plains. Gracie Himes clinched the first point of the meet for the Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1 SEC), she defeated Auburn's (1-0, 1-0 SEC) Jacqueline Frimodt on Soxy, 77-68, in Horsemanship. Emma Reichow followed suit in Fences, downing Sophee Steckbeck 89-84 on Jake.
Back in the Horsemanship ring, Kendall Gill secured Georgia's third point, upholding Olivia Tordoff, 76.5-72, on Cojac. Leah Anderson finished by claiming the fourth point on Hannah over Auburn's Maddie Spak, 77.5-76. Georgia ended the first two events trailing 6-4.
Courtney Blumer led off for Georgia in the Reining event. She defeated Boo Kammerer, 68-66.5, on Matt. Sophomore Caitlin Lyons took the next point over Olivia Marino, 67-66.5, on Chopper. The Bulldogs' final point came from Jordan Toering in Flat. She rode Rex to a 77 over Sophee Steckbeck's 75.5.
Next, Georgia will face Fresno State in the team's home opener on Oct. 22 at 2:00p.m. at the Georgia Equestrian Center in Bishop.
