Georgia Finishes Fourth at SEC Championship

NEW ORLEANS --- The University of Georgia GymDogs placed fourth with a score 197.000 at the Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Championship at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday night in New Orleans.
 
LSU was crowned SEC Champions with a score of 197.900, followed by Florida (197.750), and Alabama (197.350).  Georgia finished ahead of Arkansas (196.475), Auburn (196.375), Kentucky (196.225), and Missouri (195.900). 
 
"The team really pushed for every tenth tonight," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "You want to give it everything you have. This team never quit. Even though we started off a little shaky on balance beam, they never quit.  We had a few mistakes on floor, and one or two on vault, but they really came home on bars.  They did what they needed to do.  The fight is what is going to keep them moving through post season."
 
Georgia started competition on beam with a 49.050.  Rachel Dickson led the squad with a 9.900, followed by a 9.850 by Sabrina VegaSydney Snead posted a 9.800.  Rachel Baumann and Marissa Oakley contributed scores of 9.775 and 9.725, respectively. 
 
Moving to floor, the GymDogs posted a 49.300.  Again, Dickson led the event for Georgia with a 9.925.  Rachael Lukacs posted a 9.875, followed by a 9.850 from Rachel Baumann.  Snead and Vega contributed scores of 9.825. 
 
Georgia scored a 49.175 on vault.  Snead led the GymDogs, in the anchor position, with a 9.900. Lukacs posted a 9.875, followed by two 9.825's from Vega and Mikayla Magee.  Additionally, Abbey Ward contributed a 9.750. 
 
The GymDogs finished strong on bars with a 49.475 on bars to match a season-best score. This also tied LSU for the best bars score of the championship. In the lead-off position, freshman Megan Roberts scored her season-high with a 9.900.  Alexa Al-Hameed, Dickson, and Marissa Oakley also contributed 9.900's.  Snead posted a 9.875. 
 
The SEC Championship was the last chance for all teams to improve their NQS marks prior to NCAA regional seeding. The NCAA Selection Show will be streamed Monday, March 25th, at 4:00 PM ET on NCAA.com. Georgia will host the NCAA Athens Regional in Stegeman Coliseum April 4-6.
