Junior Sabrina Vega Leads GymDogs to a 196.400 at Auburn

January 25, 2019 | Gymnastics

AUBURN, Ala. --- The sixth-ranked Georgia GymDogs posted a 196.400, falling to the No. 13 Auburn Tigers' score of 196.775 on Friday Night in Auburn Arena.

Junior Sabrina Vega led the GymDogs posting a 9.9 on vault and a pair of 9.925's on beam and floor.  She set a season high on vault and beam, while matching her season best on floor.

"Today's meet had some definite highs and lows," Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. "It was really about heart tonight. They are ready in the gym but there are things we need them to continue working on. The lows outshined the highs at times throughout the meet, but wow, vault. They were really able to step it up in the second rotation after a disappointing first rotation. I am proud of their progress and they have more to grow."

The GymDogs began competition on bars with a 48.800. In her first time competing away from Stegeman, freshman Megan Roberts led the squad with a 9.850, followed by a 9.800 from Rachel Dickson. Sydney Snead contributed a 9.775.  Rachael Lukacs and Emily Schild rounded out the event with scores of 9.725.

Georgia gained momentum on vault, marking a new season- high score with a 49.400.  The three upperclassmen, Snead, Dickson and Sabrina Vega, each contributed 9.900's for the GymDogs.  Freshman Rachael Lukacs earned a 9.875 for her powerful vault and Mikayla Magee led off with a 9.825.

The GymDogs transitioned to floor, performing to a 48.925.  In the anchor position, Vega led with a 9.925. Lukacs contributed a 9.825, followed by Snead with a 9.800. Sami Davis and Dickson posted scores of 9.700 and 9.675, respectively.

Georgia hit the 196-mark with a season high 49.275 on beam.  Again, it was Vega who led the team with a 9.925.  Freshman Rachel Baumann and Snead matched scores of 9.875.  Dickson scored a 9.850, followed by 9.750 from Magee.

Georgia returns to Stegeman Coliseum next Friday, February 1 to face the Arkansas Razorbacks live on the SEC Network at 7:00 p.m.
