Wildcat Classic Showcases Ritchie in Georgia Win

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Georgia volleyball team came back to win three-straight sets after dropping the first to secure a 3-1 victory over Davidson (5-2) on Friday.
In the first meeting between the two teams, the match featured Rachel Ritchie's career-high 27 kills. With the most Georgia (7-1) kills in a game on the season, Ritchie also added two aces with nine digs. Freshman T'ara Ceasar joined Ritchie with 18 kills of her own and team-highs of three aces and 17 digs. Sophomore Meghan Donovan set up 49 assists on the match.
In the first set, an early lead failed to hold as the Bulldogs dropped the first frame in a close 25-23 score. Georgia returned for the second set, however, separating itself by as much as seven points twice. Ritchie snagged the final three points of the second set with kills for Georgia.
After the Bulldogs acquired the 8-7 advantage in the third set, Davidson remained close behind, tying up the set at 15, until Georgia pulled away with the 25-20 margin. Seven unanswered points led the final fourth-set surge, capped by 20 kills and a 25-21 decision in the frame.
Georgia improves to 7-1 on the season, as the Davidson win marks the Bulldogs first come-from-behind victory. Georgia has won each of its weekend openers since the season began.
The Bulldogs continue play in the Wildcat Classic on Saturday against Wofford at 10 a.m. and Florida Gulf Coast at 4 p.m.
