ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia soccer (4-9-1, 1-6) defeated the LSU Tigers (6-9, 1-6), 3-0, for the Bulldogs' first Southeastern Conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Turner Soccer Complex.
The shutout victory is Georgia goalkeeper Louise Hogrell's third of the season with the Asa, Sweden native making seven saves in the game.
"The idea was to put pressure on them early and provide as much offensive pressure as we could," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said. "We went back to two forwards instead of just one like we have been playing with. We have worked so hard and just come up a little short, even when we have played really well. Today we finished those chances, and hopefully that will give us confidence and momentum moving forward."
Georgia came out firing. Lauren Tanner had the Bulldogs' first look on goal as her shot hit the post and Marion Crowder shot the rebound ball high over the net.
Crowder was able to capitalize on her next look to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 in the 7th minute of action with a cross in the box from Kelsey Killean. This marks Crowder's sixth goal of the season.
LSU had a chance to even the score in the 17th minute, but Jorian Baucom sent the ball right into the hands of Hogrell for the save.
Georgia extended its lead in the 19th minute when a corner kick from Taylor Donohue set Becca Rasmussen up for the touch to send the ball through the net.
Georgia carried the 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Bulldogs kept their first half momentum through the next 45 minutes. Georgia sealed the victory in the 57th minute of play as Kelsey Killean scored off a perfect cross from Lauren Tanner.
Georgia led LSU in shots (25-11) during the 3-0 victory over the Tigers.
"We've been struggling with playing a full 90 minutes, but today we just really put it all together," Crowder said. "We played like it was 0-0 even when we were winning. Regardless of the first half of our season, we came out today and played our best."
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, Oct. 13 as the team travels to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide at 7 p.m.
