ANN ARBOR, Mich. --- The No. 9-ranked Georgia gymnastics team fell to No. 7 Michigan 196.925-195.200 in the Gymdogs' season opener at Crisler Center on Saturday.

"There were quite a few positives," Georgia head coach Danna Durante said. "We had a mistake on each of the events early on and the rest of the team came back and really was resilient and finished each event strong. We struggled a little bit on beam, but I loved the way we warmed up. I love that those that nailed their routines, they just kept coming. And even those that made the mistake finished the rest of the routine really strong. There's a lot to build on and there's a lot to grow from."

The Gymdogs opened with a 49.125 on bars, highlighted by a 9.9 from freshman Sydney Snead in her first career performance. Seniors Brittany Rogers and Brandie Jay added 9.875 and 9.825, respectively. The Wolverines opened with a score of 49.050 on vault.

Snead also paced Georgia's efforts on vault, earning a score of 9.875, followed by Jay and sophomore Natalie Vaculik with 9.8s. With Michigan's 49.200 on bars, the Wolverines led 98.250-98.050 after two rotations.

On floor, senior Mary Beth Box posted the team-best score of 9.9. Sophomore Gigi Marino added a 9.875 and Snead recorded a 9.825 to help lead the Gymdogs to a 49.150 in the event. Michigan tallied a score of 49.100 on beam.

In the final rotation, both Rogers and Box led Georgia on beam with 9.8s. The Gymdogs totaled an event score of 48.000. The Wolverines closed the meet with a 49.575 on floor.

"There's always room for improvement, but I think today we learned a lot," Snead said. "There were a lot of positives, but there's also things we can work on. We just circled up and talked about what we can work on, so it'll be exciting to see for next week."

Georgia will return to action on Friday, Jan. 15, at Arkansas at 8:30 p.m. The meet will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
