
No. 1 Georgia Falls to No. 4 Auburn

Auburn, Ala. --- No. 1 Georgia Equestrian falls to No. 4 Auburn 11-8 on Friday in Auburn, Ala. This is the team's first loss of the season as they are now 4-1 with a 1-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers move to 5-1, 2-1 in the SEC.
"Our team fought back today," head coach Meghan Boenig said. "There are certainly some things we could improve on, but overall there were some really great rides. Auburn was a great team as are we. This is an experience to learn from. We're very appreciative of the Bulldog Nation who came out to support us."
In Equitation Over Fences, Liza Finsness grabbed the first point for Georgia out scoring her opponent 80-76. Caitlin Boyle won the next point for the Tigers. Alex Maracic won the next point for Georgia 77-72 over Auburn's Ashley Foster after a re-ride was granted to both riders. Auburn won the next two points of the event, leading Georgia 3-2.
Auburn extended its lead during Horsemanship in close competition. Madison Anger won the first point for Georgia before Auburn's Hannah Stephens edged Rachel Kolb 71.5-71. Auburn took the next point over Georgia's Bailey Anderson 69-68.5. The Tigers won the final two points over the Bulldogs.
At intermission, Georgia trailed Auburn 7-3.
Georgia and Auburn split points in Equitation on the Flat. Addy Cord won the first point for Georgia 69-61 before Meg O'Mara rode to a tie of 77 with Auburn's Caitlin Boyle. Auburn won the next two points. Liza Finsness won the last point of the event out scoring her opponent 79-76.
In Reining, Kyndall Harper edged Auburn's Alexa Rivard 69.5-69. Auburn's Hailey Munger won a point over Claudia Spreng 70.5-68. Lauren Garmon grabbed the next point for Georgia before Auburn's Blair McFarlin out scored Charley Thiel 71-68. After a re-ride was granted to determine the final point of the day, Georgia's Greyson Stroud out scored Auburn's Allie Dusha 67.5-65.5.
The Bulldogs return to action next Friday against the South Carolina Gamecocks at home in Bishop, Ga. Competition is slated for 1 p.m.
