
Georgia Falls to Texas A&M 11-7

COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The Georgia equestrian team suffered an 11-7 loss to Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at the Hildebrand Equine Complex in College Station, Texas. The Bulldogs move to 2-3 on the season with a 2-1 record in the Southeastern Conference. The Aggies improve to 3-3, including a 1-2 mark in conference play.
Despite the outcome, Georgia picked up two MVP honors. Paige Stawicki earned the honors in Horsemanship and Meg O'Mara was awarded the honors in Equitation Over Fences.
“This was obviously not the outcome we were hoping for,” said head coach Meghan Boenig. “We unfortunately made some errors that turned out to be costly. We did have several great rides and I have to commend Meg and Paige for such strong performances. There are areas we have to improve on as we move into the second half of the season. We’d like to thank Texas A&M for being terrific hosts and congratulate them on a great competition.”
Texas A&M edged Georgia 3-2 in Equitation Over Fences. Marlena Parker won the first point of the day with a 78-74 victory. Leylan Gleeson answered with an 80-76 decision over Hannah Williams. O’Mara followed with an 85-76, MVP-earning performance over Haley Webster. The Aggies took the final two points with wins from Alex Desiderio and Leah Chenelle.
Georgia dropped a 4-1 decision to Texas A&M in Horsemanship. Logan Pluhar rode to the first point for the Aggies. Stawicki was the next point on the board for the Bulldogs, defeating Rachel Lucht 78.5-76 and was awarded MVP honors. The Aggies picked up the next three points as Molli Jacobs, Kaci Fisher and Caroline Day sealed the 4-1 win. Georgia trailed Texas A&M 7-3 at the half.
The Bulldogs battled to a 2-1 win in Equitation on the Flat. Megan Southam rode to an 80-point draw with Marlena Parker in the first match-up of the event. Kylee Arbuckle then captured a point for the Bulldogs with a 75-64 decision over Williams. O’Mara picked up her second point of the day with a 76-71 victory over Desiderio. Texas A&M’s lone point came from Anna Rea who used a 81-76 decision to earn a point for the Aggies. Gleeson and Haley Buchmiller tied with 71 points apiece, leaving the Aggies leading the Bulldogs 8-5 entering the final event of the day.
Caroline Robinson led things off in Reining, defeating Pluhar 70.5-68.5. Lindsey Cheek brought the Bulldogs within one after outscoring Ashley Dotson 69.5-66.5. With the last three point s up for grabs, Texas A&M sealed the 11-7 win as Sarah Kate Grider, Laura Sumrall and Hannah Jechow each earned points for the Aggies.
