Volleyball: Ole Miss Sweeps Georgia

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team completed a sweep over Georgia on Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Arena winning by set scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-19.
With the win, Ole Miss improved to 12-5 overall and 6-2 in Southeastern Conference matches. Georgia falls to 10-9 overall and 2-6 in league play.
The Rebels controlled the match both offensively and defensively by outhitting the Bulldogs, .318 to .077, while leading in total team blocks at 13.0 to 3.0. Whitney Craven led the match in kills with 16 on a .324 clip, and the Rebels' strong blocking performance was paced by Miranda Kitts and Allegra Wells, who recorded eight stop each.
For Georgia, junior setter Kathleen Gates recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 22 assists and 10 digs. Offensively, freshman outside hitter Brittany Northcutt had a team-best eight kills and senior middle hitter Valentina Gonzalez added seven kills on a .462 clip.
Also of note for the Bulldogs, junior libero Carla Tietz finished with a match-best 18 digs, which now gives her 1,028 career digs and moves her up two spots to 15th in career digs at UGA.
Sunday's match in Oxford was the second contest in a four-match road swing for Georgia. The Bulldogs conclude the road stretch next weekend with matches at South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 15, and at second-ranked Florida on Sunday, Oct. 17.
